Lost $120 on a cheap toner kit and paid for it twice

I bought a no-name toner kit off Amazon for my HP laserjet last month, saved about $120 compared to OEM. By the third refill it was leaving streaks all over every page and I had to toss the drum entirely. Ended up buying a whole new printer from Best Buy for $200. Any of you guys ever tried those generic kits and had them backfire?

Hold up, I gotta disagree with the crowd here. I've been using generics for years and never had a problem like that. You probably bought some random "compatible" brand with no reviews or got a dud batch. I stick with a couple names I trust online and my HP laserjet runs perfectly for a fraction of the price. A whole $200 printer is way more than you needed to spend, you could have just bought a new genuine HP drum for like $60. Most people trash the generic stuff because they grab the cheapest option without checking. I get you had a bad experience but it's not fair to blame all generic toner for one bad kit.

Same thing happened to me with a generic toner for a Brother printer. Three refills in and it started smearing black stuff all over the back of every page. Had to toss the drum and the toner, then drive 30 minutes to Office Depot for a real one. Never again with that cheap stuff.
