My foreman in Spokane told me to always carry a spare 7/16 wrench, and it saved a job yesterday.

We were finishing a drop in a tight attic and the fitting on the grounding block was totally rounded off. I was about to drive back to the shop, but I remembered his advice and pulled the spare from my bag. Got it off with a bit of force and finished the install on time. What's one piece of gear you were told to always have that actually paid off?

That "spare wrench" advice is solid. My old boss swore by a roll of electrical tape in your back pocket. Saved me from a minor coolant leak once when a hose clamp gave out.

My uncle kept a zip tie on his key ring for years. He used it to fix a broken fan belt on a back road in Nebraska. That kind of stuff just sticks with you.

A zip tie held a fan belt?
