My uncle told me to always carry a spare coax barrel connector, and it saved my day yesterday

He was a cable guy for 30 years and always said, 'You'll thank me when you're on a roof in the rain.' I was finishing a job in Springfield and the customer's wall plate connector snapped clean off. My truck was parked two blocks away. I remembered his advice, pulled the spare from my pocket, and had it fixed in five minutes. What's one piece of old-school advice that's actually held up for you guys?

That's solid advice right there. Old timers really do know the tricks that save your skin. My granddad was a mechanic and swore by keeping a few zip ties in your glove box. Seemed pointless until my exhaust hanger rusted out on the highway. Those plastic ties got me home without dragging metal. Funny how the simplest things become lifesavers. What's the weirdest little item that's ever bailed you out?

Like jason_lewis3 said, old tricks save your skin... my dad's advice to keep a pencil in my tool bag has fixed more stripped screws than I can count.

Got told to always keep a spare USB drive on my keychain. Felt silly until my laptop wouldn't boot and I needed a recovery tool.
