Went back to the old crimper after 10 years of compression fittings

I switched to compression fittings back in 2014 when I started doing more high-end home theater stuff. Thought they were the future you know. But last month I was out on a job in a wet crawlspace near Cleveland and my compression tool kept slipping in the damp. Pulled out my old $30 crimper from the truck and it worked perfect every time. Anyone else ditch the fancy stuff when the weather gets rough?

...wait wait wait you kept your old $30 crimper from 10 years ago? That thing must be beat to hell by now but I bet it still works better than my fancy $200 one that I gotta keep dry like a baby. I had a similar thing happen last winter in Michigan - my nice Kliens kept slipping out of my frozen hands but the cheapo backup set I had in the bottom of my bag just grabbed and held. Sometimes the old junk just works man.

Oh man, I feel you there. I've got an old pair of cutters I picked up at a garage sale for like five bucks, and they're ugly and the handle is wrapped in electrical tape, but I swear they cut through stuff better than anything new I've bought. It's like tools used to just be made different, you know? Your $30 crimper probably has some soul in it from all the jobs it's seen, that's why it still hangs in there. I bet if you had to grab one tool for a real emergency, you'd grab that beat up old one over the fancy new one every time.
