Fixed a stuck shutter on a Pentax K1000 at a camera swap in Chicago

I was at the Chicago Camera Exchange last Saturday and someone brought in a K1000 with a mirror stuck up. Turned out the foam bumper had turned into goo after 40 years. I cleaned it off with some isopropyl and replaced it with a thin strip of adhesive felt. Has anyone else had good luck with a specific brand of replacement foam?

Wait, isn't the mirror bumper on a K1000 separate from the film door seals though?

Did you replace the mirror bumper or the foam seal around the film door?

@the_linda i actually haven't done it myself but a friend of mine tried replacing just the foam seal on her old Canon and made a total mess of it lol. She used some generic foam from a craft store and it was way too thick so the door wouldn't close right. Ended up having to order the proper mirror bumper kit from KEH and it fixed everything though. She said the real trick is getting the foam thickness right or else the film won't sit flat inside the camera.
