Had to pick between a donor body and a custom part for a Pentax K1000 shutter fix last week. Went with the donor.

Good call. The K1000 shutter is a single unit, so a donor is the only real fix.

I saw a guy on a forum last year who claimed he fixed a K1000 shutter with a tiny spring from a pen. Makes me wonder if @ellis.faith is maybe being a bit too sure about needing a whole donor unit. Could be worth trying a crazy fix before giving up.

That pen spring story reminds me of a buddy who fixed a sticky light meter needle on an old Spotmatic with a sliver of Mylar from a potato chip bag. It actually worked for like six months before the glue gave out.
