Just hit 500 repaired shutters on my bench this quarter
Never thought I'd track it, but seeing that number made me realize how much time I spend on the same basic mechanical fault. Anyone else get weirdly specific with their repair logs?

Heard about a buddy who fixes old radios. He started writing down every single capacitor he replaced. After a year, his notebook showed he'd swapped over 700 of the exact same tiny brown cap from one specific model. Said it was kinda depressing but also cool to see.

Yeah, that's a known weak spot in a lot of 70s and 80s gear. Those little brown "Tantalum" caps fail all the time, they just dry out and short. It's basically a guaranteed repair on anything from that era. Not surprised he hit 700, they're in every piece of audio gear.

You said they're in every piece of audio gear, but I bet they're in old computer and medical gear too. Wonder if the same factory made them all?

Seven hundred from just one model? That's wild. He must have been fixing the same radio over and over, like a production line. I figured it was a common part, but that number is just nuts. Makes you wonder how many are still out there waiting to blow.
