Rant: broke a customer's Nikon F3 advance lever spring on a Tuesday drop off
Guy drops off a clean F3 at my bench on a Tuesday, says the advance feels gritty, and I figure it is a quick clean and lube. I get the top plate off and ping, the tiny return spring snaps and disappears somewhere near my shoe. I spent 40 minutes on my hands and knees with a flashlight and found it stuck in the rug, then had to tell him it would be a week longer while I wait on a parts body from a guy in Tulsa. Anyone got a trick for holding those hair thin springs down while you seat the lever, because tweezers are not cutting it for me.
My buddy Marcus had the same thing happen on a Canon AE-1 last month, spring shot across his garage and he never did find it. He started laying a piece of scotch tape over the spring once it is seated, sticky side up, just to hold tension while he drops the lever on. Sounds dumb but he swears it stopped the launch routine.
