That $9 denatured alcohol trick for sticky shutters

Read a post in another group about using denatured alcohol to clean old shutter blades instead of lighter fluid. Tried it on a 1960s Agfa that sat in a garage for decades, worked way better than my usual method. Is there any reason not to use this stuff on leaf shutters long term?

The denatured alcohol trick definitely works, I've used it on a few old shutters myself. My only caution is it can dry out the grease on nearby parts if you're not careful, so I'd just make sure you're only hitting the blades and not soaking the whole thing. Otherwise, I've never seen it cause long term issues, just give it a good air dry before you reassemble.
