That customer's blunt feedback about my shutter repairs
Had a guy bring back a Pentax K1000 I worked on and he pointed out the shutter speeds were still off by about a stop at 1/125. I was embarrassed but he was right. He said I should stop guessing and actually use a shutter tester every time. I'd been skipping it because it takes extra time but he showed me a homemade LED tester that cost like 20 bucks to build. I built one that weekend and now I check every single camera before it goes out. Caught three other cameras with problems I would have missed too. Anyone else have a customer call them out and make them better?

Glad you actually listened to him and didn't get defensive like some people would... most folks just get mad and blame the customer instead of fixing the real issue.

@bennett.evan learning the hard way is the only way that sticks, right?

Yeah honestly I used to be one of those people who'd get defensive when a customer complained about something I was involved with. I'd think "well I did my best, they're being unreasonable" and just dig my heels in. But then I had this situation at a local shop where I was the customer and the guy behind the counter got all huffy with me for pointing out a mistake on my receipt. It really made me stop and think about how I'd been acting before. So now I try to actually listen first before jumping to my own defense (which is harder than it sounds, let me tell you). That whole experience totally shifted how I handle stuff now.
