Warning: I think the move to online repair guides has actually hurt our ability to diagnose tricky shutter faults.

I fixed a Canon F-1 with a sticky second curtain last week, and the forum advice just said 'clean the tracks,' but the real fix after 2 hours of testing was adjusting a specific spring tension that no video tutorial even mentions anymore.

People get way too hung up on the old ways. For every tricky shutter fault, there are a hundred simple fixes that the online guides cover just fine. It just sounds like you got unlucky with a weird one. Most folks are never going to need that spring tension detail anyway.

Totally agree, those old service manuals are gold for that exact reason. I keep a PDF library of them for when the basic advice falls short.

My 2002 Civic manual saved me a ton on labor last month when the AC went out. How do you organize your PDFs?

Just organize them by car model?
