I ditched my 4 pound camp chair after a guy at REI said one thing to me
I used to haul this big padded chair on every trip because I thought comfort was worth the weight. A guy working the floor at the REI in Denver asked how far I hike in and when I said 6 miles he just said 'you are carrying a chair 6 miles?' That hit me. I switched to a 1 pound stool and my pack dropped 3 pounds, and my knees stopped hurting on the way out. Now I want to know, does anyone else here sacrifice camp comfort for a lighter load or am I just getting old and lazy?
Why does nobody talk about how a chair changes your whole camp setup though? Once you drop it you start sitting on logs and rocks and suddenly you're not hanging around camp as long at night. I basically just eat and go to bed now, which honestly makes the next day's hike way better.
