I finally gave up on my old sleeping bag after a freezing night in the White Mountains
I was up near Mount Washington last October, and my 20-year-old synthetic bag just didn't cut it when the temp dropped into the 20s. I spent the whole night shivering, which totally ruined the next day's hike. Has anyone else had a bag fail on them like that, and what did you switch to for cold weather?

Man, that's the worst feeling. Honestly, my old bag did the same thing on a trip a few years back. I switched to a down bag rated for way colder temps than I plan to face, just to be safe. Tbh, checking the fill power and the actual comfort rating, not just the survival rating, made a huge difference. Never again with the shivering.

Ugh, that sounds miserable. I was just reading an article about how synthetic insulation loses its loft over time, like it just gets flat and can't trap heat anymore. Made me check the date on my own bag. Maybe time for an upgrade before I end up in the same situation.
