I finally got to test my new sleeping bag in the Smokies last month

The forecast said 40 degrees, but it dropped to 28 overnight. My 20-degree bag kept me perfectly warm, which was a huge relief. Has anyone else had a bag perform better than its rating in a real pinch?

Glad it worked, but ratings are for survival, not comfort.

Isn't that just how everything's rated now, like phone batteries?

Reminds me of the time I bought a tent with a five-star comfort rating.

My old 30-degree bag once felt like a furnace liner in 40-degree weather (I was sweating buckets). Then I tried it near freezing and learned what "survival rating" really means the hard way.
