Just realized my freeze dried meals needed a waiting period for full rehydration
Last month in the Smokies I was starving and poured boiling water into my Mountain House pouch, stirred it, and ate after 3 minutes. It was still crunchy and lukewarm inside. I checked the bag again and saw the 10 minute recommendation, so I tried it the next night with the same meal and it made a huge difference. The texture was like real pasta and it stayed hot longer. Has anyone else been skipping this step and eating half cooked food on the trail?

Three minutes? That's not a meal, that's a dare. I once ate a freeze dried lasagna so crunchy it doubled as trail mix, took me a week to stop feeling like a human rock tumbler. Ten minutes is the difference between "dinner" and "evidence" 😂
