Just realized people are cleaning their sleeping bags with regular laundry soap
I was at a campsite near Lake Tahoe last weekend and overheard a guy saying he just tosses his down bag in with Tide. That's a fast way to ruin the loft and insulation. Detergent strips the natural oils from down feathers and clogs synthetic fibers. I've seen clients at my crew jobs mess up $300 bags this way. Has anyone else had to rescue a bag after a bad wash?

Just realized people are cleaning their sleeping bags with regular laundry soap" - I read somewhere that dish soap works better than laundry detergent in a pinch because it's milder on the down. I've always used the special Nikwax stuff and never had a problem, but my buddy tried the dawn dish soap trick after he messed up his bag and it actually saved it. Definitely beats ruining a good bag over a wash.
