Rant: My brand new camp stove turned dinner into a three-hour ordeal

Last month at Lake Tahoe, I set up my new stove and the regulator froze up completely at 8pm. Had to cook my dehydrated meals by boiling water over a fire pit I built with wet wood - never again without testing gear at home first. Anyone else have a piece of camping gear fail on them right when you needed it most?

Lake Tahoe is beautiful but I've heard the cold can wreck regulators fast. That wet wood fire sounds miserable, @iris927 I get the appeal of improvising but sometimes you just want dinner without a survival lesson. Idk, maybe testing gear at home first is the real pro move here.

Huh, @iris927 I read somewhere that gear fails most often on the first trip, so you're definitely not alone.

Isn't it kind of fun when things go wrong and you have to figure it out though?
