Struggling with messy camping gear storage, thinking of a DIY solution

All my tents, sleeping bags, and cooking kits are piled up in a corner of the garage. I plan to build a basic wooden rack to hang and organize everything. I'm looking at using 2x4 lumber and some hooks. Has anyone made something similar and can share what worked for them?

Hey, solid plan. How much weight are you expecting to hang, like are those tents heavy canvas or lighter nylon?

Good question, @janah83. The canvas ones are real heavy, but modern nylon is much lighter for the same size.

Actually, from my own camping trips, I found canvas tents to be a real bear to haul around. We had one for years, and setting it up was always a two-person job because of the weight. When we finally tried a nylon model, it was like night and day, way lighter for the same space. In my experience, if you're backpacking or moving sites often, nylon is the way to go. But if you're base camping and don't mind the heft, canvas can last forever. Your mileage may vary, of course, depending on your specific gear.
