Switched from a standard tent footprint to a Tyvek groundsheet after a muddy trip in the Smokies

The difference was night and day because the Tyvek kept everything bone dry and didn't absorb water like my old polyester one did, and it cost me $12 at a local hardware store instead of $45 online, so has anyone else made the swap and noticed their gear lasting longer?

Buddy of mine ruined two tents worth of gear before he finally switched.

Two tents worth of gear though? That's a lot to lose before switching. A good footprint and a dry site setup usually does the trick for me without changing systems.

Two whole tents? That's wild. I can't imagine losing all that gear twice before making a change.

Tbh @grantp14 probably just got unlucky twice, a quality footprint does the same job for less hassle.
