Tbh, my inflatable pad decided to deflate at midnight on a rocky slope.

Ngl, I spent the night feeling every pebble and now my spine is protesting.

Sleeping on rocks is the best way to toughen up your back, no joke.

My buddy Mike tried that once on a camping trip, woke up stiff as a board. He'd probably tell you, @nora691, that it just gave him a bad back for a week. I'm not convinced rocks make you tough, just sore.

Been camping a bunch and tried the rock thing myself. It's not about just lying on any old stones, that's a sure way to wake up hurting. You gotta find flat spots or use a thin pad to spread out the pressure. I learned the hard way after a night on river rocks, my back was killing me for a week. Toughness comes from getting used to it slowly, not jumping in like Mike did. Start with softer ground and work your way up, or you'll just wreck your back.
