The $4 garden sprayer trick that fixed my leaky tent seams
Seam sealer tubes kept drying out on me between trips, so I picked up a cheap pump sprayer and thinned the sealer with mineral spirits. Took 10 minutes to coat the whole rainfly instead of the 40 minutes of squeezing and rubbing. Anyone else tried spraying seam sealer instead of brushing it on?
Spent 45 minutes hunched over my rainfly last June with a tiny tube of McNett and swore I'd never do it again, so this actually sounds genius. I always figured spraying would be too thin to seal right, but 10 minutes vs 40 is pretty convincing. Gonna grab a sprayer at Harbor Freight this weekend and try it.
Same exact thing happened to me with those little tubes turning into solid bricks in my gear bin. I thinned mine with mineral spirits too and used an old spray bottle from the dollar store, worked like a charm on the whole rainfly in one go. One tip from my own mess up, do it outside on a windy day because that smell will hang around your garage for days (ask me how I know). Just go light on the first pass and hit the seams twice, thin coats beat one heavy soak every time. Nancy you will not regret grabbing that sprayer, wish I had thought of it years ago instead of wrecking my back on the picnic table.
