The REI clerk who talked me out of a $400 tent
Last month I was about to drop a pile on a 4-season tent at the REI in Portland, and this older guy at the counter asked where I actually camped. I said mostly summer trips in the Cascades, and he just pointed to a $150 3-season model and said "you're paying for snow poles you'll never use." He spent 10 minutes showing me how to layer a tarp and groundsheet instead. Has anyone else had a store employee talk you down from a bigger purchase?
