TIL those cheap solar lanterns from the discount store are a total scam
I bought one for $12 thinking it would be fine for a weekend trip. It barely held a charge overnight, even after sitting in full sun all day. By the second evening, the light was so dim I couldn't see my hands. Ended up using my phone flashlight and wasting battery. What's a good lantern under $30 that actually works?

Ugh that's the worst, it's like they design those things to disappoint on purpose. It's not just lanterns either, feels like every cheap gadget is a battery trap now. You get excited for a bargain then it dies right when you need it, total waste. Makes you miss when stuff just worked like Henry's old toaster.
