Unpopular opinion: I think the whole ultralight gear craze is overrated for most campers
Used to pack a heavy 4-person tent and a bulky sleeping bag for years, but last summer I swapped to a $40 Ozark Trail setup that weighs twice as much as my buddy's $500 tent and honestly, I sleep way better and still finish hikes just fine. Has anyone else ditched the ultralight hype for something more comfortable?

Man, that's refreshing to hear honestly. Most people chase the lightest pack but forget comfort matters on the trail. How long are your typical trips though? Because I think that's the real test. For weekenders carrying an extra five pounds is nothing, but for week-long hauls it adds up. I guess I'm asking - are you doing overnights, three-day trips, or longer stuff? That changes the whole calculation on weight vs comfort.

Ultralight works great for some folks but I'd rather carry an extra pound than lose a night of sleep. Most weekend trips don't require counting every ounce. Better rest means better hikes either way.
