Update: My Coleman lantern has been a total mosquito magnet for years.

Took it camping in the Ozarks last weekend. My buddy pointed out the bright white light was the problem. Switched to a yellow bulb he had. The bugs just vanished. How did I not know this? What other basic gear mistakes am I making?

Hold up, you've been using that lantern for YEARS? I'm amazed you didn't just give up and sleep in the car. That's brutal.

That yellow bulb trick is a total game changer. Next time, check if your headlamp has a red light mode for around camp, it keeps your night vision intact too.
