Woke up to a snapped tent pole in the rain last Saturday and somehow turned it around

I was on the Blue Ridge trail near Asheville and one of my cheap aluminum poles just gave up at 3am during a storm. Had to rig it with a branch and some duct tape to make it through the night. Next morning the sun came out and I patched it up well enough to finish the trip. Anyone else had a pole snap and have to MacGyver a fix on the fly?

Funny you mention that, @the_harper - I heard a story about a guy who used an old ski pole to fix a busted tent frame. Your trekking pole idea sounds surprisingly solid for how sketchy it probably looked. That Vermont rain must've been brutal, though.

Duct tape and a branch is a CLASSIC move. That happened to me once on the Appalachian Trail in Vermont. Except I had a fiberglass pole that shattered into like five pieces. Had to use a trekking pole and some shoelaces to keep the tent up for two nights. Looked like a disaster scene but it worked.
