TIL my TFSA was sitting in cash for 8 months and a coworker in Brampton called me out on it
I was complaining at lunch about making basically nothing on my savings and my coworker Priya just asked me why my TFSA was in a regular savings account earning 1.2%. I honestly didn't know you could hold GICs or ETFs inside a TFSA, so I moved $6,000 into a 1 year GIC at 4.1% through my bank's online portal that same week. Feels dumb admitting it but nobody ever explained the difference to me, I just thought TFSA meant savings account. Did anyone else learn this the hard way or was it just me?
