Update: Put $5,000 in a TFSA and my bank teller asked why I would bother
Went into my branch in Hamilton last month to move $5,000 into my TFSA and the teller straight up asked why I would lock that up when a GIC could get me a bit more. I went ahead with the TFSA anyway since I don't need the money for a few years. Six weeks later the market had a good run and that 5 grand was up about $310 while the GIC rate she pitched would have paid me maybe $20 in that time. Turns out staying in cash out of fear was costing me more than any dip ever did. What made you folks finally pull the trigger on investing instead of parking everything in savings?
