Hot take: That influencer who got canceled for faking a charity run actually deserved it, but I felt bad when I found out she was just trying to pay for her mom's medical bills

Last month I saw this whole thing blow up online about a fitness influencer who pretended to run a 5K for cancer research, and at first I was all for the cancelation, but then I read a follow-up post from her cousin saying she was desperate after her mom's chemo costs hit $12,000 in two months, and now I'm sitting here wondering if anyone else has ever hated on someone without knowing the full story?

Wait, did she try crowdfunding or any kind of charity help first, or did she just jump straight to faking the run? Seems like there had to be a less destructive way to get the money.

Oh man, a buddy of mine tried a GoFundMe for her cat's surgery and barely got two hundred bucks...

400 bucks for my dog's emergency vet visit last year and I had to eat rice and beans for a month. @lee847, you're right, she probably could've tried a GoFundMe first. But I've told so many lies about being "totally fine" when I was drowning in debt I can't judge her for picking the worst possible way to ask for help. Made me look in the mirror real hard about how quick I am to grab my pitchfork.
