I compared two cancellation blowups and the one that stuck made sense

Looked at the James Charles vs. Shane Dawson situations both got huge callouts in 2020. James Charles lost millions of subscribers fast while Shane’s audience mostly stuck around. What made the difference was James had actual receipts from multiple people while Shane’s drama was more about old jokes and vague claims. Have you noticed certain cancellations just fizzle out while others stick for good?

Saw this play out with a friend of mine who made a dumb comment online years ago. Someone dug it up and tried to cancel him hard, had a whole thread and everything. But the thing was, the comment was taken completely out of context and multiple people stepped in to explain what he actually meant. The mob just lost steam after a day or two because there was no real proof of bad intentions. His followers actually grew from it because people saw the smear attempt was weak. It really does come down to whether there's solid evidence or just vague accusations that fall apart under scrutiny.

Man that whole situation with my friend was wild. @the_taylor your story reminded me exactly of what happened to my buddy last year. Some random account dug up a tweet from 2015 where he joked about not liking pineapple on pizza. People twisted it into him being a food shamer or whatever. The mob came after him hard for like two hours. But the thing is he posted a screenshot showing the same joke was a reply to his friend who also hates pineapple pizza. Once that proof came out the whole thing just evaporated. His subscriber count actually jumped after because people realized the callout was garbage. You're totally right that solid receipts make or break these things every time.
