My uncle insisted I use a hammer instead of a mallet for chisels, almost lost a finger
Honestly, I thought he knew best since he built his own deck. Tried it on a dovetail joint and the hammer slid right off the chisel handle. Has anyone else gotten bad advice from a relative that almost ended in injury?

That glove thing is no joke. I had a buddy who was helping me move some furniture and he wore those big leather work gloves. He grabbed a metal shelf the wrong way and the glove got snagged on a sharp edge. Yanked his whole hand into the shelf and cut his palm open pretty deep. Took forever to heal. Now I just refuse to wear gloves if I'm doing anything with moving parts or sharp bits. Bare hands give you way more feel anyway.

Man I barely got six months into my first carpentry gig before I took a chunk out of my thumb. Sanding a piece of trim and the belt sander just grabbed my glove, pulled it right into the wheel. Wasn't even a bad cut but it bled like crazy and I had to get three stitches. Now I always take my gloves off before I mess with anything that spins. Learned that one the hard way.
