Still salty about that author who got canceled and then uncanceled

I mean, I followed this writer on social media for like 3 years, and then last June she posted something pretty bad about mental health resources. People called her out, she lost a book deal worth maybe $50k, and I felt kind of justified about it. But then six months later she apologized and got her deal back, and now everyone is acting like it never happened. Has anyone else just felt weird when a cancellation gets walked back like that?

Wait, don't people deserve a second chance though?

Saw a podcast host talk about this exact thing a few weeks back, said something about how the internet treats apologies like get out of jail free cards instead of actual work. Its like the writer you followed did the bare minimum and got her whole career back while the people she hurt probably just moved on quietly. To me it feels less about second chances and more about how we all kind of forget the whole thing ever happened once the money comes back. The whole process just feels hollow, like a performance.

Honest question though, is anyone really that broken up over a writer they never met?
