That advice from my foreman about never using shortcuts on rebar tying cost me 3 hours last week.
He said always twist the wire twice around each intersection, but I figured once was good enough on a small slab pour in Dayton. Ended up with a section of rebar shifting during the pour and had to redo the whole corner. Has anyone else ignored a simple rule and paid for it big time?

You said "twice is non negotiable" and that's dead on. My buddy tried to save money by only doing one coat on his concrete steps and they were cracking within a year. He ended up paying double what it would have cost to just do it right the first time.

My neighbor tried that whole once was enough thing and ended up having to redo their whole driveway last summer. @linda_dixon49 nailed it, twice is the only way to go if you want it to actually last. Learned that the hard way with my own patio, had to rip it all up after just two winters. Cheap once just costs you more in the long run.
