That candle company I loved got canceled for stealing scents from small makers
I used to buy from this brand called Hearth & Wick every month for like 2 years. Then last summer I found out they were ripping off exact fragrance recipes from indie candle makers on Etsy and selling them as Original. They even copied a scent called Autumn Bonfire from a maker in Portland who named it after her grandma's apple pie recipe. Does anyone else think it matters when big brands steal from people just starting out?

Stealing someone's grandma's recipe" is just business, not personal, and copying a scent isn't a crime.

That's so disappointing to hear, especially since you stuck with them for two years. Stealing someone's grandma's recipe and calling it "original" feels particularly disrespectful. It really matters when bigger brands do that because they have the resources to create their own stuff, but they take the easy way out and hurt people who are just trying to build something.

And it's not just about the recipe either, it's the TIME you put into trusting them. I had a local coffee shop do the same thing to me with a signature drink my family made for years. They even put it on their menu with a fancy name like THEY came up with it and it STILL makes me mad thinking about it.
