That time my car AC fix turned into a 4 day nightmare
Tried replacing a $30 compressor relay on my 2010 Civic and ended up chasing a wiring short that took me 3 afternoons of tracing with a multimeter to finally find. Has anyone else had a basic repair snowball into something way bigger than it should have been?

Swapped a cabin air filter once and ended up rebuilding the entire front suspension three years early.

That "rebuilt the entire front suspension three years early" line hits way too close to home. @kelly385 I've been there with my old F-150 where a simple cabin filter swap turned into me finding a mouse nest in the blower motor, which led to pulling the dashboard, which somehow made me notice the steering rack was loose. Next thing I know I'm replacing ball joints and tie rods at 60k miles just because I was already there. Best advice I can give is set a hard rule for yourself: no "while I'm in there" jobs unless something is actually broken or dangerously worn. Otherwise you'll turn a twenty minute filter change into a weekend project every single time.
