The day my favorite coffee shop owner got canceled over a tip jar sign

A place I went to every morning in Austin for 3 years, this guy had a sign saying no tips for customers who pay with exact change. Someone filmed it, posted it, and the next week his shop was empty. I watched him lose half his regulars in 10 days just because of a stupid laminated note. He took it down fast but the damage was done, and honestly I still think that was overblown. Has anyone else watched a small business go down for something way smaller than the big chains get away with?
