A homeowner in Spokane asked me why I was taking so long to stretch the pad before the carpet went down.
I explained that a rushed pad job causes ripples in six months, and she said she'd never had an installer take the time to explain that before, which made me wonder how many guys just skip the talk and rush the work.

But sometimes you just need the job done fast and cheap, right?

Fast and cheap often means paying more later to fix their mistakes.

You know, I used to be totally on the "fast and cheap" train for everything. What changed my mind? I hired a guy to fix a leak under my sink for half the price of other quotes. It stopped leaking for about two weeks, then it came back way worse and ruined the cabinet. The "cheap" job ended up costing me triple to fix the water damage and redo the plumbing right. Now I see that low price tag is often just the first payment, not the only one.

Yeah but is it ever REALLY that simple? Like what job are we even talking about? If it's hanging a picture, sure, go fast and cheap. But @milarodriguez has a point for anything bigger. That "cheap" fix can fall apart in a month and then you're paying double. It feels like a shortcut but it's often just a waste.
