Guy at the supply house in Tulsa said stretch it tight or don't bother, I say that's wrong
I was picking up tack strip in Tulsa two weeks ago and this older installer looked at my power stretcher and said if you can't stretch it drum tight you shouldn't be laying carpet at all. But I've been doing this 14 years and I'll say it plain, over stretching causes more callbacks than anything else I deal with. Had a job in Broken Arrow where the last guy cranked a berber so hard the backing cracked along the seam and the homeowner was picking fibers out of her vacuum for weeks. A little give lets the carpet move with the subfloor and temp changes instead of splitting on you. Anybody else run into guys who think tighter always means better?
