Hit 500 square feet of patterned carpet and almost lost my mind

I took on a job last month for a customer who wanted a repeating geometric pattern across their whole living room. First room went fine, but when I hit 500 square feet of this stuff I started noticing the pattern was shifting by about an inch every three rows. Nobody tells you how bad patterned carpet can mess with your head after a while. Your eyes start playing tricks on you and you second guess every seam. I had to tear out a whole section and redo it because I didn't catch the drift early enough. That little mile marker taught me to check pattern alignment every 50 feet instead of waiting. Has anyone else hit a weird number like that on a tricky install and had it teach you something the hard way?

500 square feet and you only lost your mind a little? Sounds like you got off easy. I swear patterned carpet is designed by someone who never had to install it, just to mess with us. Checking every 50 feet sounds right, but I bet by the end you were checking every 5 feet and still second guessing. At least now you know the drill, even if it cost you a whole redo to learn it.

Thought it'd be no big deal getting a pattern right, but yeah @gracec16 you're spot on. Ended up triple checking every little strip by the end. Changed my whole outlook on carpet work.

Oh man 500 feet of geometric pattern sounds like a special kind of torture. Quick note though, you probably meant 50 feet not 500 for that first check, right? Not trying to be that guy but I had to reread it twice. Either way that repeat taught you a brutal lesson.
