Honestly, I used to cut carpet backing with a utility knife until a client in Phoenix asked if I was a surgeon

Now I use a hot knife for everything because it seals the edge and looks way cleaner. Anyone else make that switch after a weird comment?

Ever have a client say something that made you question your whole method? That surgeon comment is wild. What kind of hot knife setup did you end up getting, and was there a learning curve with the different materials?

Honestly, that comment just made me double down. Got a basic variable temp unit, and yeah, foam melts way faster than wax.

A buddy in the trade said the learning curve's all about pressure control, not just heat.
