Just found out carpet waste stats are worse than I thought
I read a report from the Carpet America Recovery Effort that said only about 5% of old carpet gets recycled. The rest goes straight to landfills. That blew my mind because I've been hauling away thousands of pounds a year for 12 years now. I always figured someone was doing something with it, but nope. Most of it is just sitting there forever. Do any of you guys actually have a recycling drop-off nearby or is it just me stuck dumping everything?

Nope, you're not alone, it's basically just the dump for most of us. I had the exact same wake-up call a few years back when I looked into recycling old carpet from my own house. Figured I'd be a good citizen and find a drop-off, spent an afternoon calling around and the closest one was like 80 miles away and they only took it once a month. So I drove out there with a truckload, waited an hour, and the guy said they hit their weight limit for the month and turned me away. That's when I started lying to myself that it must be getting turned into something useful somewhere.
