Power stretcher or knee kicker for tight hallways, which side are you on?

I was on a job last week in a 1960s rancher outside Portland, hallway only 36 inches wide. The homeowner watched me wrestle a power stretcher in there and asked why I didn't just use a knee kicker like her last guy did. I told her knee kickers leave wavy seams if the backing isn't perfect, but honestly, I've seen guys do clean work with just a kicker in tight spots for 20 years. So which is it, are we over-reliant on power stretchers in narrow runs, or is a knee kicker just asking for callbacks? Curious what the rest of you push when the tape measure says you've got no room to swing.
