Saw a hotel carpet job in Orlando last week that was a total hack job

I was staying at a big chain hotel near Disney for a family thing, and the hallway carpet caught my eye. The seams were already pulling apart maybe 2 months after install, if that. I counted 4 different spots where the pattern didn't line up at all, and one section had a wrinkle big enough to trip over. Made me wonder if the installer even used a power stretcher or just a knee kicker. How do places get away with paying for work this sloppy?

A knee kicker on commercial carpet is just lazy.

Not gonna lie, I feel like you gotta look pretty close to even notice most of that stuff. @rowan969 makes a good point about managers not catching it, but honestly if nobody trips and it looks fine from 10 feet away, is it really that big of a deal? Hotels cheap out on everything, this is just another one of those things.

Man, that's exactly the kind of thing that drives me nuts. I had a similar situation a few years back where I subbed out a hallway job to a guy I thought knew what he was doing, and three months later the seams popped and the pattern was off by a solid inch. Turned out he was skipping the power stretcher and just using a knee kicker on the edges, which saved him maybe 20 minutes but cost me a callback and a free fix. The worst part was the hotel manager didn't even notice until I pointed it out, so that's how they get away with it, you know?
