Switched from glue-down to stretch-in after a hotel job went bad
Watched a 12 year old carpet in a Marriott hallway get pulled up and the concrete was totally clean underneath. That convinced me glue-down isn't worth the extra hassle for commercial work. Any of you guys made the switch on high-traffic areas?

Twelve years and clean concrete underneath... that's basically a miracle in the hospitality world. Must've been a slow motion nightmare watching that glue job fail though. Guess the extra prep time is worth it if you want to avoid scraping glue for three days straight.

Tried that same approach last year with an old roll from a supplier that clearly sat in a hot warehouse too long. Spent a whole weekend just scoring and flooding the seams before pulling it up. Honestly the extra prep time saved my back from three days of scraping dried glue off subfloor with a razor scraper. Worth every minute of the wait.

Man that sounds brutal. Nothing worse than spending a whole weekend on prep just because some supplier couldn't keep their warehouse cool. But yeah, you're totally right - that extra work upfront saves your body later. I've been there with old linoleum that just crumbled on contact, spent days scraping off chunks of glue that had baked into concrete. Your back will thank you every time. Sometimes the job just has to take the time it takes.
