Tack strip joints keep splitting after a year, turns out I was stapling them backwards

Been installing for 6 years and every few months I'd get callbacks on long hallway seams, then an old hand from Cleveland showed me the pins need to face the concrete at an angle, not straight down, and I haven't had a single split since, has anyone else fought this?

Funny how the right angle fixes everything, same thing happens with picture frames or even screwing in deck boards, once you learn the direction everything clicks.

Wait, so the pins were pointing at the ceiling this whole time and you still got six years of work out of it? That's like driving with the parking brake on and blaming the tires. @knight.dylan's got a point though, angles fix everything until you're on your back under a hallway with a sore neck and a stapler that weighs more than your pride. I bet the old hand from Cleveland charges extra for that secret, probably calls it tuition. Anyway, backwards pins or not, at least the callbacks are finally dead.
