That time a homeowner insisted I skip the power stretcher on a 20x15 room in Dayton
I agreed against my better judgment (the subfloor was concrete and I knew it would buckle), and sure enough, three weeks later I got the call about a massive ripple right down the center, so I had to go back, pull the whole thing up, and properly stretch it with my trusty Roberts 104, which cost me a full day's pay and taught me to never let a client talk me out of a core step, no matter how much they push.

I mean, some of it depends on the carpet and the room, right @robert_scott57?

Ugh, that's brutal. Learned that lesson the hard way with a client who swore they didn't need seam sealer on a high-traffic hallway. Had to eat the cost of a full replacement when it started fraying a month later. Never again.

Actually had a client skip seam sealer on their basement floor last year. We used a heavy duty commercial carpet with a tight weave, and it's held up fine even with their kids running around. Sometimes the carpet type itself can handle the wear if it's chosen right.
