The stair landing seam I had to rip out twice in Columbus

Last Tuesday I was doing a full stair runner in a tight split level and my seam fell right where the landing turns. I pieced it together three times and each pass looked like a purple zebra because the pattern was off by half a diamond. I finally stopped, cut a fresh piece from the roll, and took my time with the heat iron at 190 degrees. Anyone else ever fight a pattern match on stairs and just walk away for coffee before getting it right?
