Warning: My knee kicker snapped on a Berber job in Phoenix last Friday

The metal arm just gave out when I was stretching a tricky corner. I had to run to the local supply house and grab a new one, which set me back two hours. Anyone have a brand they trust for heavy duty stretching?

My Roberts knee kicker from 2018 snapped on a thick wool berber last month... the whole head just flew off. I switched to a Crain Power Stretcher for the big jobs now, it just feels way more solid.

The head just flew off? That's a pretty violent failure for a knee kicker. Makes sense you'd upgrade to something sturdier after that.

Actually, the head flying off is a pretty common failure mode for those older Roberts kickers. The cast aluminum just gets brittle over time. Upgrading to a power stretcher for thick carpets is definitely the smart move.

Did that Crain feel noticeably heavier when you first started using it?
