Dropped $650 on a "learn to invest" course in Tampa and the free library book did the same thing
Two years ago I paid $650 for a weekend investing class in Tampa, mostly since a coworker kept pushing it and I felt behind on saving. The main "secret" turned out to be: put money in a low fee index fund every month and leave it alone. That is it. The whole weekend. I could have read the same thing in a library book for free, which I found out about a month after. They also pushed a $99 a month "mentor group" at the end, and about half the room signed up right there. I sat on my couch that night and felt sick about the money. The worst part is I lost more behind it since I tried to time the market with what I "learned," so the total hit was closer to a grand. My real ask is this: for people who figured out investing on their own, what actually helped, and did anyone else pay for a class like this?
