Found my dad's old tool box and it wrecked my whole take on quality
He passed away 8 years ago and I finally cleaned out his garage in Columbus last month. Every single wrench in there was a Craftsman from the 80s with that rough textured handle. I spent $300 on a fancy German set last year thinking I needed the best. Now I'm wondering how many other cheap tools from back then were actually way better than what we buy now. Am I the only one finding old stuff that's still perfectly fine?

I read somewhere that Craftsman tools from the 80s had a different steel blend that made them tougher than most new stuff. My dad's old socket set still looks perfect after 30 years, no joke.

Ha man, must've been that secret blend of "actually cared about quality" and "wasn't trying to save a nickel per socket." My grandpa's Craftsman stuff from that era still works great too. Funny how that works.
